Fast sewing projects

I have repurposed some old clothes for new clothes. I love it! I think it's the best. If I have something I'm not going to wear, why not try to make something new out of it instead of giving it away?
Here's Kate, texting on James' phone.. just kidding! but she really looks like she is.
I made her this shirt from an old winter shirt - the strawberry was a patch on the shirt, and she had out grown it. I decided the best thing about that shirt was the strawberry, so I cut it off and sewed it to a new short-sleeve shirt. Easy.

This is one of my shirts that's been hanging in the closet for a while (+ a cat)... I haven't worn it since before I had Kate. I like it, but it will never fit again. :(

I decided to cut off the bottom part and make a skirt for Kate. It was super simple to do: turn inside out, fold down the top part to make a casing for elastic; sew your casing leaving a gap to pull the elastic through. Then you sew the elastic together and finish sewing up the casing. The bottom of the shirt was already hemmed.

Done! And because Kate was still napping, I made a little flower pin from the same shirt to go on her onesie. It was also really easy to make.

I made a cover for my sewing machine. Why not? I had some extra fabric, so I whipped it out after dinner the other night. It's just 2 rectangular shapes of fabric sewn together with some ribbon for ties.
Check out Allie the cat.. you can tell she is all up in my business when Kate's not around.
(Please excuse my messy table, too - this is all stuffed in the closet of the office)

If you guys enjoy these post, maybe I'll try to do more of them. Let me know! :)

Cat returns, Ms. Sadia leaves

The cat came back!

Here's the poor thing in a carrier in our office this past week.
Lindsay and Barry made it their mission to rescue the cat. They had been putting a trap out at the office, and the kitty was finally captured.

I'm happy for 2 reasons: The kitten can now go to a good home and be out of danger, and I was able to see that it didn't have rabies!! It's been long enough, so I quit getting the rabies shots.

Good luck little kitty! I hope you like your new home.

Ms. Sadia has been one of Kate's favorite teachers. Unfortunately, she has had bad migraines and also some heart trouble. I'm not sure of the specifics, but I know a room of screaming babies can't help the headaches. We are so sad to see her leave!

I know Ms. Sadia had a difficult time leaving - she has worked at the First School for 8 years.
I brought some photos of Kate for her, and I gave her a candle holder made with a glass jar - I had made some at Christmas, but this was extra special using one of Kate's first baby food jars.

Kate had to show me how she can get in her swing at school (I think she's was showing off for the camera!).

Summer Dress

It's been a while since I've made anything worthy of posting.. I finally finished this dress. I know I have been working on this for over a month - just couldn't figure out what I wanted it to look like, or I lost interest.
I got the blue fabric on clearance last year for $2. Not bad!

Here's Kate modeling the dress.

.. and her pigtails.
And of course Sally had to have a new dress, too.

4th of July recap

Besides one little mishap, we had a great 4th of July weekend!

Kate discovered the adult-size rocking chair (she's been hanging off of the back of it for a long time, but never tried to sit in it until now - what a new perspective walking can give!).
This rocking chair belonged to James' Great-Grandmomma Lil, and it was a very special gift to us from Grandmomma Kathy.

Speaking of Grandmomma Kathy, we got to visit SC over the weekend. Kate was given a box of music makers!! She loved them. She especially loved the jingle bells, which she carried around the house for hours.
Jingle-jingle

We also got to hang out with our friends, Margaret and Tod. Kate was not having any of the pool (am I surprised?), but we enjoyed it!

Kate enjoyed playing with Josie the cat.

Kate also got to try chocolate ice cream for the first time. It was a hit.

And the mishap had to do with me... getting bit by a tiny kitten outside of the office. I shouldn't have picked it up.. long story! Regardless, I got bitten, and I was told by my doctor to go to the ER! I thought it was a little excessive, but it's a good thing I went - as I was sitting in the ER, my swollen finger (that had been hurting all day) started showing advanced signs of infection. I got a red streak going from my hand up my arm! Tetanus shot and antibiotics were given. Because the cat was not captured (and we weren't sure if it had rabies), i had to go back this week to get rabies shots. No fun!! If the cat is captured this week, I may not keep going back as it takes forever.. My finger is much better, and I learned my lesson about messing with wild animals. :)
