Sewing and stuff

Not only have I gotten back on the blogging kick, I also have been sewing again.  I have been inspired by some new fabrics and the end of summer.  
Mom gave me a lot of great fabric - especially for little girls.  Most of it is leftover from things she made for me. :)

Here's one of the dresses I made.  Does anyone remember Herself the Elf from the '80s?  Kate loves the "little fairies".

This is the first dress that I have made from an actual pattern!!  It was really easy, much easier than I thought it would be.

I made this chalk board for our front porch - it's nice for Kate to use her sidewalk chalk.

Kate just loves her sweet tea (and mine!).  Does anyone else find this odd?
I will make a special watered down cup for her, but she knows mine is the full strength version and steals it.

This was a great weekend for us - our anniversary weekend.  We stayed at home except for the trip to the gardens.  I took a photo of Kate with her mashed potatoes because she said they were her favorite food.  I asked her what her favorite colors were, and she said, "yellow and pink!!"  Then I asked who her best buddies were... she said, "Mommy, Daddy and Jake!!"  Melt my heart!!  :)

So I may have sewn over my finger this weekend working on slipcovers... owwwww!!!  A little bleeding but nothing too major.  It was bound to happen at some point!  One day this project will be complete.....
 

We visited the Atlanta Botanical Gardens on our anniversary weekend (7 years!!!).
We had to book it to get there in time to see the frog feeding, but it was worth the extra sweat to see them.  Kate really liked the "froggies".

 Kate loved the conservatory-rain forest area the best.  She took off down the stone paths running for a good 30 minutes.

 Look at this beautiful wall of orchids!  Can I have these in my house, please?

We had a great time, and it really was a great way to stay cool in the shady areas.

Goin' to Jackson

We recently went to Jackson to celebrate James and Dad's August birthdays. 

We decided after lunch that we should go for a walk to show Kate the cows.  "Come on Mommy!!"

There are several pastures across from the house, and they sometimes have cows in them.

Cow!!  It was far away though.  We will try again next time when they are closer.

I wanted to get the little white cabinet that I used to have in my room when I was Kate's age.  Mom said i could have it and repaint it.  I knew that Kate would like playing in the wardrobe... just like i did!

It only took a couple of minutes before she climbed in it.

What I didn't know was that this furniture was also my Mom's growing up!  How awesome.  We have it at home now, and I just finished painting it.  When I pulled out the bottom drawer, my uncle's name was scribbled in pencil on the back.. "Bobby"

We had such a good time hanging out!
