It's Fall, Y'all

It was chilly this morning! I guess it is officially fall. The spiders have come out - this one is just outside our kitchen window. I check out the progress on his web every morning.
Yuck!!!! I hate spiders. But Halloween is just around the corner. Yippeeee!!!

Kate is 7 months old!!! Actually she's going to be 8 months on the 14th. I'm behind as usual. But these are the photos we took on Sept. 14th. We had just got home from school and work, and she was so excited to see her daddy (she always gives him the biggest smiles).
Then it was back to focusing on the cats. She is fascinated by them!! Lucky for her, Allie (the calico) is always where I am, so she gets to see her a lot. She does not see Eve very much (the black cat - Eve is short for evening, but if you have ever met her you might think it is short for evil).
Whoa! She hissed that time - look at Kate's face!! She was like, "What was that?! "

We are now eating our food!!! This has been really fun - seeing what she likes or doesn't like. We finally found what she does like: bananas. And she loves them! She ate a good bit the first time we gave them to her. Now she eats everything we give to her! Magic bananas. It's been about 2 weeks since I gave her any, and today I brought them back out. I gave her squash first, and then the bananas. She cried for more! Then she ended up eating the ENTIRE container!! I was in shock. This is progress! (I think she's sad in the photo because there are no more bananas)
Here's a photo with Gran. Gran and Pap-pap came up last Sunday to help us with a tree that had fallen in our back yard. Luckily there was no damage, and it was a small tree. The tree was already leaning, and when the ground got so saturated, it just fell over. For those of you who have been living under a rock (Jen), we had a really bad flood here in Georgia this past week!! We escaped any flooding at our house, although James had flooding at his office. I really feel bad for the folks that were affected.

Over labor day weekend, James and I went to NASCAR. It was fun (although I started getting sick with a cold/fever), but it was seriously hot outside. It felt like 100 degrees.
See what I mean - we were taking turns sitting under an umbrella. That's how hot. And it was actually cooler to sit inside that jeep in the shade than outside. I wondered why I was torturing myself for a while, but it finally cooled off in time for the race. That's Horace and Margaret that I am with for those of you who did not know.
And here's Bruce in the stands. That poor woman in front of him.. she had no idea what was coming out of Bruce for the next few hours (loud noises, slinging alcohol, loud noises).
And here's a very tired Chris, who tried to babysit Bruce for a while before throwing the towel in and going back to the tent (did i mention we camped - this is a tradition). Oh well, sorry Chris! I think in the end, a great time was had by all!
Here's the race - Kasey Kahne won. I'm very sorry I do not have more photos of the campsite. My dad made a very cool portable grill for us (engineer). We will get some photos next time. :)

And finally (wow, this is the longest post ever), this past weekend I went to Jennifer's bachelorette party!! Yea!!!! Jennifer's getting married. I'm thrilled for her. We had a good time, and I think the black dress idea was a good one. We went to dinner in Midtown and to Opera (a club) for dancing. I was done by 12:30, and luckily so was Jennifer and everyone else. Getting too old for staying out past my bedtime! I remember in Athens not even going out until 2!!!!! What in the world. We would go dancing from 2-4 at the Ga Theater.

More Kate photos soon!

Peace out.

Our little inchworm

Our baby is an inchworm! Every night, I put her on the right side of the crib. By morning, she is at the far left in the corner. Sometimes her head is even against the end! It's funny because she is not able to "inch" around when she's awake, only when she's sleeping.

Must have the thumb.

She puts her little butt in the air. So cute. I moved her in the middle of the night one time when her head was at the end (she had cried) - I pulled her to the center of the crib and put her on her back. She immediately flipped back over and tucked the legs in.

Zzzzz...

Gettin crafty and blowing raspberries

Howdy!
Hope everyone had a good Labor Day weekend. We are still recovering from being sick. We all have a cold, but Kate's turned into an ear infection. I thought breastfed babies weren't supposed to get them, but maybe that's a bunch of crap.

On the food front, we have recently tried carrots, squash and apples. I can't see that she's excited about anything yet. I think she just wants her bottle.

Here we are trying carrots. (Kate: that does not look like my bottle)

(not my bottle)

(you're not fooling me)

We basically have to fight her to get the food in. She would rather suck her thumb. It gets messy!!

I've been getting pretty crafty these days. On the sewing machine specifically. Kate is so inspiring! Plus baby clothes and other stuff are so tiny - it's not a time consuming project usually. There are all these places to buy cute baby clothes, and most of them are just onesies with embellishments. I decided I could make those myself. I don't have photos of everything, but here's a few items that I have made.

I made three of these blocks for Kate, plus a bag to keep them in.
I made this shirt for Kate. I used fabric that was a couple of dollars on clearance, and some ribbon I already had. I thought it would be big on her, but turns out she will only get to wear it that one time. Good thing I took a photo!

More crafts to post later.
Back to Kate! (Because Blogger is not easy to layout. Grrr!!)
anyway, she is loving some raspberries these days.

I wasn't able to get the video I wanted to download, so I put this shorter video on instead. It's still cute - it shows how she has found her tongue I guess. She did this weird mouth-open-tongue-moving thing all weekend, but hasn't done it since.
See y'all later!

Kate is 6 months old!

Actually, she was 6 months on the 14th. But we are still celebrating! Or crying, because she's getting so big, not sure which. She eats, eats, eats. She's getting much better at eating rice cereal these days, which I have to give the credit to her Grandmamma Kathy - but we'll get to that! Kathy and Gail came to stay with us for the weekend.
See how happy Kate is to be 6 months?! And also to have that red and white GEORGIA onesie on. I am not getting much support on UGA apparel these days. No support! I know I've got some friends out there somewhere.. and Kate's on my side! :)

As I was saying, Kate is starting to get the hang of spoon feeding now. Grandmamma Kathy was a big help getting her to take the food - here she is feeding her breakfast.

Empty bowl! I couldn't get more than a tablespoon or so down, and there was probably 2 or 3 in this bowl. This week we tried out peas - she loved them! I did too, but James did not. Well maybe he would, but he would not try them. I figured we should know what she is tasting, but he disagrees. Photos to follow on that new experience.
Kate has a bunch of beautiful dresses to wear, but we have just now started going to church again. Hopefully as we try to go more often, she can also get a chance to wear these cute outfits! I tried to get a photo of her in this one, but she rolls over too fast.

"Stop taking photos, Mommy!"

Here's a photo from our first time back to church. It went well except that we were running a little late, then stayed in the nursery too long, then go lost in the church trying to take a "short cut" to the sanctuary. Naturally, we came in on the balcony level trying to be sneaky and got caught: everyone was looking in our direction to see a video on a screen - right at the door where we walked in!! I hate that.. :)

One side note - you'll notice in the last photo there's a pacifier. Ah, the ever present pacifier. Well Kate turning 6 months also marks the end of the pacifier. Yes, she is a full time thumb-sucker now. Guess we don't have to worry about getting rid of that pacifier... now how will we get rid of her thumb... ?
